Tae Kwon Do One-step Self-defense Techniques


Techniques are written with right side strikes & kicks. However, students should practice on both sides.


GREEN BELT:

1. Punch Attack.  Right step to 2 o’clock, left in-to-out block, right stomach punch, left face punch. Yell!

2. Punch Attack.  Right step to 2 o’clock, left in-to-out block, right neck chop, right elbow strike to jaw. Yell!

STRIPED GREEN BELT:

1. Punch Attack. Left step to 10 o’clock, double out-to-in block, left side way hammer fist to face, right punch to stomach. Yell!

2. Punch Attack. Left step to 9 o’clock, left out-to-in (downward) block, left backward elbow to the face/jaw, right palm strike to face. Yell!

BLUE BELT:

1.  Punch Attack. Right step to 12 o’clock, right out-to-in block, right reverse elbow to ribs, right back-fist to face, turn your body and left leg to face directly away from your partner than perform a downward hammer-fist to the groin. Yell!

2. Punch Attack. Left step to 10 o’clock, right in-to-out block, left kidney punch, right face punch, right hand grab partner’s shoulder, pull partner’s body down into a right knee strike to ribs. Yell!

STRIPED BLUE BELT:

1. Punch Attack. Right step straight back, left in-to-out knife block then grab, right tiger mouth to throat, right snap kick to groin. Yell!

2. Punch Attack. Left step to 9 o’clock, right in-to-out block, left punch to face, right hand grab partner’s wrist as you slide back the left foot making distance for a right round kick to ribs or thighs. Yell!

BROWN BELT: 

1. Snap Kick Attack. Right slide forward, left low block and scoop up ankle, right punch to face, left round kick to back of leg or knee. Yell!

2. Round Kick Attack. Right slide to 3 o’clock, double forearm block the kick, left palm strike to face, right stomach punch, right knee strike to groin. Yell!

STRIPED BROWN BELT:

1. Wrist Grab Attack (Attacker grabs your left wrist with his right hand). Pull your left elbow upwards to the sky while opening your left palm and spreading your fingers. Step your right foot back and punch your left hand towards the ground to release it from the grab. Left hand back-fist strike to partner’s face, right leg snap kick to groin or stomach. Yell!

2. Shoulder Grab Attack (Attacker grabs your left shoulder or upper sleeve from the side). Attacker grabs your left shoulder from the side. Left hand in-to-out knife hand block toward the inside of the elbow join, strike his temple with a right  hand out-to-in hammer fist strike (palm up), front leg snap kick or knee strike to groin or stomach. Yell!

RED BELT:

1. Punch Attack. Left step to 11 o’clock, left in-to-out high block, grab partner’s wrist, right punch ribs, bend down and pick up partner’s front ankle with right hand and pull his feet forward for a take down, right hand punch to face. Yell!

2. Punch Attack.  Right step to 2 o’clock, left in-to-out block, grab partner’s wrist, right neck chop, right elbow to face; right reverse elbow to jaw then hook right arm around the back of the neck, slide your right foot straight back as you pull your partner’s head down toward your back leg, lifting up his right hand toward his head to flip him. Yell!

STRIPED RED BELT:

1. Two Hand Wrist Grab Attack (Attacker grabs your left wrist with both hands). Reach left hand in between your partner’s forearms and grab your right hand (interlacing fingers). Step back your left foot and pull up both hands to release your partner’s grip. Keeping hands interlaced, strike your partner’s face with a hammer-fist motion. Repeat the strike from the other side. Yell!

2. Two Hands Shoulder Grab Attack. (Attacker places both hands on your neck/upper shoulder areas).  Step back right foot and bring both hands up around the outside of your partner’s arms and slap down his forearms. Double upper cut punches to the jaws. Yell!

POOM BELT:

1. Shoulder Grab Attack (Attacker grabs your left shoulder with right hand). Put your right hand on top of his wrist/back of hand. Step right foot back to extend his elbow. Left out-to-in block and hit his extended elbow joint with the left forearm.  Left sideway hammer fist to face; move left hand to join your right and grab his right wrist, left side kick to knee and then ribs while hanging on to his arm. Yell!

2. Shoulder Grab Attack (Attacker grabs your right shoulder with right hand). Left step to 9 o’clock, right in-to-out block into a grab on your partner’s wrist, left face punch, place left leg in front of partner’s right foot, push down shoulder with left hand, pull wrist down with right hand; right stomp kick to face. Yell!
